He’s a very sweet man. The answer to this really depends on when you catch him. With fans, to me, he sort of has two settings: Sebastian Stan and Sebastian. ‘Sebastian Stan’ is that dorky, overly excited, out there guy fans always talk about at Cons (you know, the one making all the silly faces in fan photos, being over-the-top or goofy in videos, etc.).
When he starts getting tired, or the switch is turned off, or if you happen to run into him OUTSIDE of a fan setting, then he’s Sebastian, just… more himself, I guess? Not that he isn’t in fan settings, it’s just that he has to amp up the charm because that’s what people go there to meet, right? But when he’s just being himself, he’s a lot more introverted and shy. For some reason, every single time I met him, his switch was turned off and I didn’t experience that crazy-excited goofball that a lot of the other fans experienced meeting in either Philly or Chicago. But it was also nice because I always felt like I was talking to the actual guy, and not the celebrity.
He’s a really down-to-earth, humble individual. Like, when a friend of mine met him outside of a fan convention, she made a joke about him being a big celebrity and he did that shy laugh thing he does and insisted he’s not a big celebrity. He acted the same way when he and I got to chat briefly alone, before he left on the first day. I saw he had a box full of gifts fans had given him, and when I asked if those were all birthday presents, he looked at them and did the shy laugh thing and quietly chuckled, “I guess so…” as if he couldn’t really fathom that people would go through that much trouble for him.
But whether his switch is ‘on’ and he’s Sebastian Stan or it’s ‘off’ and he’s just Sebastian, the following is ALWAYS the same: he will always be respectful and look you RIGHT in the eyes when you talk to him (sometimes a little intensely lol), he’ll ALWAYS thank you, and he’ll ALWAYS be touched by you thanking him in return. Yeah, I guess that’s the universal constant: he’s just a great fucking guy haha
